Underrated Movies

Well, it's that time of year. The Holidays are over, football is sadly winding down, what are you going to do until spring?

Watch movies, what else? I am going to try and list some movies that I feel have been very underrated. Movies you likely haven’t seen. There won’t be any problem getting these at the video store. Hell, if you live neat a Walmart you might even find them in that enormous 5 bin.

The firs movie I would like to introduce you to is called the Best of Times, starring Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. This is one of those movies that just resonated with me for some reason. It definitely had a message, there was a nice little underdog component and it was pretty funny in spots.

Williams’ character has spent his life lamenting one single moment that went wrong. He’s convinced that one thing, that mistake, ruined his life, sent him into a tailspin and made everything wrong from that moment on. What’s worse, he’s pretty sure that one moment in time ruined other lives, not just his, he feels responsible for the derailed destiny of not only himself but some of his friends. And as you journey through this depressed little town with the miserable characters you get the feeling he just might be right.

The movie was directed by Roger Spottiswoode in 1986, who went on to make Tomorrow Never Dies and Turner and Hooch. Ok, so he made Stop or My Mom will Shoot, give the guy a break.

So go forth and find this movie. Enjoy a performance by Williams that few people have heard of but you will love. It’s like having an inside secret, enjoy a movie no ones heard of but you, impress your friends when you recommend this movie to them!

One film I absoluytely adore which almost noone has ever heard of was "October Sky" a brialliant film based on the true story of Homer H. Hickim who was an astronout for NASA. Homer's rise from cloe miner to space traveler is truly remarkable and even inspired me to read the true story of Hickim "Rocket boys."
